RE

At Eggbuckland Vale Primary School, the principal aim of religious education is to explore what people believe and what difference this makes to how they live.

About this curriculum

Curriculum Intent:

At Eggbuckland Vale Primary School, we want our children to be able to leave us with the skills and knowledge to know ‘who they are and where they are in the world’. They will have a sense of place and purpose to thrive in a multicultural, diverse society.

We understand that it is important for all pupils, regardless of need or barrier, to learn from and about world religions to understand the world around them. We aim for our children to develop a tolerance and appreciation of different world religions and to understand how religious beliefs shape life and behaviours.

Curriculum Implementation:

At Eggbuckland Vale Primary School, we follow the Plymouth Agreed syllabus which supports teachers in maintaining the required study of religion and non-religious worldviews at each key stage. The syllabus aims to ensure that RE continues to become more rigorous and challenging within the city and that children are given the opportunities to dig deeper into concepts as well as being given opportunities to learn in a creative way.

The teaching and learning approach has three core elements, which are woven together to provide breadth and balance within teaching and learning about religions and beliefs:

Make sense of a range of religious and non-religious beliefs

Understand the impact and significance of religious and non-religious beliefs

Make connections between religious and non-religious beliefs, concepts and ideas

Curriculum coverage

RE is taught regularly in every year group.. Following an appropriate plan in the Plymouth Syllabus, the following religions have selected for study:

Christianity

Judaism

Hinduism

Islam

In addition to the religions required for study at each key stage, non-religious worldviews, including Humanism, are also explored to ensure that pupils develop mutual respect and tolerance of those with different world views.
