Regular reading at home is greatly appreciated and we would like you to hear your child read at least four times each week and record when you have read in their individual reading record. Reading books will be changed twice a week on a Monday and Thursday.
Tuesday is our library day, where children can borrow a book to share with you at home, please return it each week in order to take home a new one.
High frequency words
"High frequency words are one of the main types of sight words and are those words which occur most frequently in written material, for example, "and", "the", "as" and "it". They are often words that have little meaning on their own, but they do contribute significantly to the meaning of a sentence as a whole."
Here is a list of high frequency words that you could practise reading at home.
Below is a selection of activities and lessons that the Year 1 Children have experienced this term.
Below are some websites that the Year 1 teachers feel will be useful to the Y1 children.
Phonics Within Spelling Shed, digital games and assessment tools for phonics are available. These support the teaching of phonics via Phonics Shed but also give Spelling Shed users an additional set of tools to help develop children's phonics skills.. Our games start from pre-reading skills such as environmental sounds, include decoding-based games and even a flying superhero hare.
A site packed with interactive phonics games, phonics planning, assessment ideas and many teaching ideas and
resources to help children to learn to hear phonemes, recognise graphemes and develop the blending and segmenting skills that are vital for learning to read and spell.
