This week the school was represented at the Citywide Netball Tournament. This fantastic group of children played their absolute hardest to come away with a well deserved 2nd place in their group. Every child scored at least one goal with a total of 30 goals across the 5 games. Amazing! Huge congratulations to them all. All of the children were a total credit to themselves and the school. Well done.

Just before Christmas, some members of Netball Club had the opportunity to play a friendly against Manadon Primary School at Eggbuckland Community College.

All of the children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and learnt a lot from it.

Well done all!

A huge congratulations to the Year 3 & 4 dance and drama club who performed a 25 minute Lion King show to their family and friends this week. What a fantastic mix of singing, dancing and acting it was.

This group of wonderful Year 6 children are this years Sports Leaders and are coming to the end of a 12 week leadership programme with Miss Mullally from Eggbuckland Community College. All of the children have really impressed Miss Mullally and they are very excited about developing their leadership skills in the Spring Term when they will be working with a group of Year 3 children. Well done Sports Leaders! Mrs Schneider and Mrs Shaw have lots of projects which you will be involved in throughout the year.

On Wednesday (20th November) a team of eight children represented EVPS at the Inclusion Games. The children took part in curling and seated volleyball matches against schools from across Plymouth. The events were new to most of the children but they listened very well to the instructions and soon got the hang of it. Well done all.

The Year 5 Dodgeball club recently represented the school at the Dodgeball Festival at Hele's Secondary School. They had a fantastic time and were a total credit to themselves and our school. Action shots were super hard to get, they were all moving so quickly! Well done to all of you.

This determined team of cross country runners performed really well at the Primary Cross-country Championships at Staddiscombe Fields on Thursday 17th October. Almost the whole team improved their final position in their race from the warm-up event the previous week. What a determined attitude they all displayed!

Six Key Stage 2 children had a great time at a boccia tournament at Tor Bridge on Wednesday. The children thoroughly enjoyed playing a new sport and competing against other schools. The children also showed great sportsmanship and respect for the opposition. Well done everyone.

We were lucky with the weather yesterday! (10 October) 25 pupils from KS2 volunteered to brave the elements and take up the challenge of the Cross country warm-up event at ECC. As you can see from the photos they really enjoyed themselves too! Well done to our hardy team.

Our Athletics team had a very successful day at the Plymouth Primary Athletics Competition this week, despite the challenging weather conditions. They returned to school with a big batch of certificates, medals and a trophy between them. Mrs Schneider and Mrs Shaw were also delighted with their team-working spirit throughout all the events. What a wonderful team!

Year 3 classes have been working really hard this term in PE lessons learning how to play Tri-golf. Today (24 May) 5 boys and 5 girls from Year 3 attended the Tri- golf Festival at Plymouth Golf Centre. A team of boys and girls from Year 6 represented the school at the citywide Tag Rugby Tournament this week. They played fantastically well, winning 4 matches, drawing 2 matches and losing just 2 matches.
Mr Bishop-Hawes reports that their teamwork was exceptional. Well done to all these children.

85 children from KS2 represented the school on Sunday at the City Wide Half Marathon Challenge Event on the Hoe. After completing at least 12 miles at school they all ran their final mile to complete the half marathon distance. The sun was shining and the children's behaviour was exceptional. A fantastic (but very early!) morning was had by all!
Huge congratulations to all of the children and yet again a massive thank you to all the helpers involved in both the weekly running sessions and the event on the Hoe.
Mrs Schneider looks forward to doing it all again next year!!

Thursday 9th May saw a team of 8 excited competitors from our school heading off to the Level 2 Primary Inclusion Games being held at Eggbuckland Community College. Our pupils participated in some sports that they had never tried before - archery, seated volleyball, new-age kurling, mini-tennis and table cricket  - and enjoyed them all! A wonderful (but exhausting) day of sport was experienced by this talented team.

A team of children from Year 5 recently represented the school at the PSSP Level 2 Orienteering Competition. It was the first time we have entered this competition and all of the team thoroughly enjoyed it and added to their orienteering skills. Very excitingly we took away 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the white course, and 1st and 2nd place in the yellow course. FANTASTIC! Well done to all of the children.

Year 3 & 4 Dance & Drama club finished this week with a fantastic performance of Alice in Wonderland to their families. Their singing, dancing and acting was absolutely brilliant and they should all be really proud of themselves. Well done! We look forward to working with Laura Shepherd from LS Drama Workshops again next academic year.

The Year 5 Dance Team enjoyed a wonderful morning at the inaugural PSSP Dance Festival on Wednesday this week. They performed their 3 dances with confidence and flair and really appreciated watching the performances of all the other primary school groups too.

KS2 Half Marathon Running Club.
Half Marathon Club is now in full swing with all of the children running amazing distances each week. We have our largest ever number of children, with 87 looking forward to the challenge on the Hoe in May. Thank you to all our regular helpers who are instrumental in ensuring the club is running so smoothly each week.

A group of 16 Year 6 children represented EVPS at this years Citywide Indoor Rowing Competition. They all participated in an individual 2 minute race and also a team 800m race. All of the children were fantastic and improved the distances they had rowed in school a few weeks ago. Excitingly, Nathan gained 2nd place overall in the individual event, rowing 468m in 2 minutes. He was up against 47 other children! Many congratulations to all of the children, they did themselves and the school very proud.

These year 3 & 4 children are really enjoying the After School Dance & Drama Club and are already hard at working practising for an Alice in Wonderland mini production just before Easter. How exciting!

Just before Christmas a team of children attended a football tournament at Goals, Plymouth. They played incredibly well and ended up coming 2nd overall. Really well done boys!

A team of 6 Year Five & Six boys recently went to an Inclusion Rowing event at Torbridge Primary School. All of the team had a fantastic time and really improved their rowing skills. They were really excited to see how quickly they could row 200m by the end of the event. Competition was fierce between them! Who knew you could play a fish game on an indoor rowing machine?! Well done to all of the boys, who were really great representatives of our school.

Four children from Year 6 recently represented the school at the annual Bronze Ambassador Conference at the Life Centre. These children have been selected to be the Bronze Ambassadors leaders for the school this year and will be a key part of the sports leadership group.
All of the children had a brilliant time and learnt lots about how to be fantastic leaders. They are looking forward to putting these skills into action soon by planning and delivering a Change for Life club for younger children in the school.
Well done all of you.

After the warm-up event earlier in October our cross country team competed at the city-wide Level 2 School Games Cross country event on Thursday 18th October. The 'going' was soft after a week of wet and stormy weather but the afternoon arrived with just a breeze and blue skies! All our pupils ran their hearts out (almost literally) and enjoyed the event enormously. One of our pupils achieved first place in the Year 3&4 girls' major schools race. Congratulations to all our team!

On Wednesday 3rd October our Year 4, 5 and 6 cross country team participated in the Eggbuckland family warm-up event at the community college. The weather was kind to us and our 21 runners were eager to perform well on the hilly course. Everyone ran to the best of their ability and we ended up with some very good individual results.
