Eggbuckland Vale Primary School & Nursery

Thinkers and Learners

History of EVPS

THEN
Eggbuckland Vale Primary School is located at Charfield Drive, Eggbuckland, Plymouth.

Under its Head Master Mr K F Pailthorpe, the School accepted its first pupils in May 1974. It was formally opened by Mr Ralph Morrell, former vice-chairman of the Plymouth Education Committee, on July 2nd 1975, by which time it had 180 pupils. The vicar of Eggbuckland Parish Church, the Reverend C Whitfield, gave the blessing.

The single-storey building was the first part to be completed on a new 43-acre site which was to become a major education campus. The school cost £141,250 inclusive of furnishings and was designed by the City Architect, Mr Charles Weeks, before responsibility for education was transferred to Devon County Council.

NOW
The school has grown to 14 classes (2 in each year group and a nursery) and over recent years we have opened two purpose built blocks which house 8 of the classes.

We are also the centre for Hearing Impaired Education in West Devon and we have a number deaf children who contribute greatly to the life and character of the school.

This is a unique situation and benefits all of the children in school. In addition up to 100 children regularly participate in deaf awareness and Signing Clubs throughout the week.
